I think this is a book that is not really familiar within the Bookish Community. That's why I have to share my thoughts on this, even though it's been ages since I've read this book.
This is really fun and magical but also keeps me sitting on the edge of the chair. And did you know, that this book is also made into a movie? Starring...yes, the one and only: Brendan Fraser. It's one of my all-time favourite films and this it does a lot of honour to the book.
In Inkheart, we follow Meggie and her dad. It turns out dad has a magical gift. When he reads a book out loud, the characters and the storyline actually come to life!
Let's be honest, we all want that sometimes, right? 😏
"Don't worry too much. After all, the world they came from wasn't without dangers."
However, for a long time the dad doesn't even know he has this gift — and by the time he does find out, it's too late. His wife disappears without a trace. But when a stranger comes knocking, Mo is forced to reveal the truth to Meggie.
Then it takes a turn for the worse, Meggie gets kidnapped. It turns out, she also has the gift....Mo tries to find her. But wait, is that his wife?
I think everyone should read this book.
it's good to know that this is a YA book. And it was written in 2003. There is no spice in this book, but that doesn't matter. What does matter is Mo's devotion for his family.
It is a story with twists and turns. Very well written as if you were in the book itself.
I think this book, and also the movie, doesn't get enough credit.
Unfortunately, the movie is no longer available in The Netherlands on Prime. But maybe it is available in your country.
You can find the book on Amazon* and mind you. It's a trilogy. After Inkheart you have Inkspell* and Inkdeath*

The synopsis
Dare to read it out loud...
Meggie loves stories, but her father, Mo, hasn't read aloud to her since her mother mysteriously disappeared.
When a stranger knocks at their door, Mo is forced to reveal an extraordinary secret - when he reads aloud, words come alive, and dangerous characters step out of the pages.
Suddenly, Meggie is living the kind of adventure she has only read about in the books. But this one will change her life forever.

Written by Cheryl — bookworm, English reader from the Netherlands. Loves fantasy, dragons and everything in between.
